CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

New Rider Maintenance

This is a three-hour one-night class. You will get the Park Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair. The focus is on inspection and knowing when there is a problem. You’ll be shown how to change a tire and inner tube, how to clean your bike, lubrication and minor adjustment of brakes and shifting. With this class you will be able to use that emergency tool kit under your saddle and head out on rides with a bit of comfort knowing all the basics are covered.

Intermediate Class

To take this course you must already know how to change a tire and patch a tube. Sessions are held one night a week from 7-10pm for 3 consecutive weeks.  Topics covered in class will be derailleur adjustment and cable system, chain installation, brake adjustments, crank installation, servicing bottom bracket, hub adjustment, and wheel truing. Classes will have an hour of lecture time and 2 hours of lab time. Your bike will be needed for the lab. Some lab exercises will be done on shop demos. Your bike needs to be a current bicycle less than 10 years old. If you do not have a current bike you can make arrangements with Brian to get you a project bike.

Advanced Class

This is for students who have already taken the Intermediate Class. This class is meant to take your knowledge from adjusting to overhauling. We will cover derailleur capacity and maximum sprocket size, derailleur hanger alignment and repair, headset disassembly and assembly, headset installation and removal, replacing damaged or broken spokes, and overhauling hubs. Your bike will be needed for class. Again current model bikes only. Some installations and removal will be done with shop demos.

To ensure all material is covered there are a few requirements for the class.  Bicycles need to be current models either Road, Mountain or Hybred. Please be prepared to learn a little about both if we have a mixed class. Tools will be provided. You will be working on your own bicycle. You will need to bring it to every class. If you do not complete the work during the class time you will have work for home. If you need to leave your bicycle you can store it at the shop.

We understand different people work at different speeds. We will do our best to provide you extra time in the shop to finish your project if you are slower or need to do additional work.

Cost per session includes a copy of the Park Big Blue Book Repair Manuel and use of shop tools and lubricants. 20% discount on tools purchased during the tool school session only. 10% to 30% discount on parts installed during the class. You must register 2 weeks before a session. Registration is in store only and payment must be made in advance. No payments over the phone. Class size is limited so sign up early. If you miss a class we will try our best to make up the class for you during another session if space is available. During the winter we could run into a snow day. Alternative class dates will be scheduled to cover missed course work.

Registration is open now.

Note: All classes need to be paid in advance of the classes start. Please refer to the current schedule of classes and start dates.
